Company fined 300,000 after worker fatally crushed by fork lift truck

Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres, the?Lincolnshire-based firm, has become fined after the worker died as soon as the fork lift truck he was driving overturned on the company base in Grantham.

Lincoln Crown Court heard the staff member was transporting tyres without wearing a seat belt, if the fork lift ran spanning a loose tyre. He was crushed between fork lift truck and the ground and then died from his injuries.

An investigation via the Safety Executive (HSE) found there was no company policy ready instructing workers to make use of seatbelts when operating fork lift trucks.

Theinvestigation also found in the event the tyres have been stored securely this would have prevented them rolling towards the roadway and might have reduced potential risk of the fork lift truck overturning.

Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres of Hill Foot, Grantham, Lincolnshire pleaded guilty to breaching section 2(1) of the Safe practices in the office Act 1974 and has been fined
